Maintenance Supervisor/Head Maintenance

Job title:
Machinery Maintenance/Repair 
 
The primary job of Machinery Maintenance is to keep all machinery at the plant in tip-top working order.
 
Machinery includes, but is not limited to: 
  • Grinders 
  • Molders 
  • Planers 
  • Gang rip and straight line 
  • End Matchers 
  • Band saws, chop saws, rip saws 
  • Air Compressors 
  • Dry Kilns 
  • Forklifts – PMs included
  • Delivery Trucks – PMs included
  • Tractors – PMs included
 
Reports to:
  1. Plant Supervisor
 
SUBORDINATES/ Supervises:
  • All those appointed to help complete your tasks 
  • Any fork driver as long as managers allow. 
 
Traits/ Skills Required:
  • Must be able to pay GREAT attention to detail 
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment and tools 
  • Familiarity with the following:
    - Electrical 
    - Alignment 
    - Welding 
    - Machining 
    - Rigging 
    - Roller Chains 
    - Mechanical 
    - Woodworking machinery 
  • Must be familiar with some computer equipment including Excel Spreadsheets 
  • We’ll train you in this if necessary 
  • Must be able to identify issues with machinery and provide a solution 
  • Must be responsible and timely 
  • Must be able to lift some heavy objects 
  • Works well with others has a good attitude and is eager to learn. 
 
DUTIES:
Preventative Maintenance 
  • Perform weekly inspections of all machinery 
  • Oil levels 
  • Filters 
  • Wear and tear on all parts 
  • Tires, rollers, and wheels 
  • Become familiar with all machines by reading instruction manuals 
  • Must keep all machinery manuals in a library 
Machine Breakdowns 
  • You are responsible for all machine breakdowns 
  • You must respond to all machine breakdowns immediately 
  • If two machines break down at the same time, you must prioritize by importance of the machine. 
  • If you don’t have the necessary parts, you must order them. If necessary, place the order for overnight, this must be signed off by the plant manager. 
  • Keep a record log of all breakdowns and parts ordered. 
Parts Inventory 
  • Develop a parts library 
  • Identify parts commonly replaced and keep those in stock for all machines. For example: 
  • Planer Knives 
  • Bar Stock for molding templates 
  • Inserts 
  • All wear parts 
  • Keep those part numbers handy as well as the cheapest place to purchase them. 
Records 
  • Use Excel Spreadsheets to keep all maintenance records 
  • Machine Issues 
  • Parts replaced 
  • Parts ordered with pricing and where it was ordered from. 
  • MUST MAINTAIN GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES 
  • MUST BE ABLE TO DISCIPLINE THOSE WHO WORK UNDER YOU IN A FAIR MANNER 
  • THIS INCLUDES WRITING THEM UP FOR VIOLATING COMPANY POLICIES, YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DO THAT. 
  • MUST BE ABLE KEEP ISSUES WITH EMPLOYEES PRIVATE 
  • MUST BE ABLE TO KEEP PAY RATE PRIVATE

Previous experience working with wood products and managing people is preferred. Qualified candidates must have the ability to read prints, work unsupervised, and complete work in a timely fashion.
